COCKTAIL RECIPES

 

GIN & TONIC & SHRUB

A Gin & Tonic is a perfect thing and needs no improvement. That said, a little Calvit's Ginger/Lemongrass Shrub is a fine addition.

1-1/2 oz favorite gin 

2 tablespoons Calvit's Ginger/Lemongrass Shrub

Good squeeze of fresh lime

Tonic water 

Make your favorite Gin & Tonic, and add a little Shrub

 
The Lynnhurst

The Lynnhurst

BOURBON, GINGER-LEMONGRASS

I'm going to call this the "Lynnhurst," in honor of the Shrubber's home turf.

1-1/2 oz. good bourbon 

1 oz. Calvit's Ginger/Lemongrass Shrub

Tablespoon or so fresh lemon juice

Splash of club soda 

Lemon twist 'cause it's pretty

Bourbon cranberry cocktail

1-1/2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. Calvit’s Cranberry/Rosemary Shrub
Dash of bitters
Serve in lowball glass over ice 

Pistachios of course are always a good idea, especially those salt & pepper babies from Costco.

The Maudslay

As served at Tomlin Restaurant in Thunder Bay

1 oz. Rye whiskey

1/2 oz. Aperol

Splash grapefruit juice

Tablespoon sage Syrup

1/2 ounce Calvit's Beet/Ginger Shrub

Squeeze fresh lemon

Torta Rosa Cocktail

1 oz. tequila

1/2 oz. mezcal 

1/2 oz. Calvit's Tomatillo-Tamarind Shrub

1/2 oz. lime juice

1/4 oz. agave nectar 

Top with nutmeg

This drink is a “mule” of some sort—you can tell by the obligatory copper mug. And into that mug I suggest you place:

1-1/2 oz. vodka
1 oz. Calvit’s Ginger/Lemongrass Shrub
Juice of 1/2 lime (1 tablespoon or so)
3 oz. club soda
Ice

If you don’t have a copper mug—and really, why would you?—it’s equally delicious in a plain ol’ glass glass.

The Double Shift

To unwind after a long day in the kitchen, my friend Jeff relies on The Double Shift.

1-1/2 oz. dark rum

1/2 oz. Calvit's Thai Basil Shrub

Good squeeze of fresh lime juice

Club soda

Combine in glass over ice

Beet Shrubber

Wow, that's really red. And really good.

1 oz. favorite vodka

1 oz. Calvit’s Beet-Ginger Shrub

1 oz. club soda

Mint sprig

Garnish with lemon or lime

Not-A-Rosé (N/A)

A non-alcohol option that hits a lot of the same tart, tangy, sweet, floral, spicy notes as a rosé (and, yes, looks lovely in a wine glass).

1 oz. Calvit's Tomatillo/Tamarind Shrub

3 oz. tonic water

Almost too simple, right? For something that looks and drinks a little more like a red wine, try the same treatment with Calvit's Beet/Ginger Shrub. For an experience more analogous to a spicy Gewurtztraminer, Calvit's Ginger/Lemongrass Shrub.

 

The TTT

Tomatillo/Tamarind Shrub and Tequila

1 oz. Calvit’s Tomatillo/Tamarind Shrub

1 oz. tequila

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 tsp agave juice

Splash soda

Combine in glass over ice.

Tomatillo Gimlet

1/4 oz. honey

3/4 oz. lime juice

1/2 oz.  Calvit’s Tomatillo-Tamarind Shrub 

Shake, serve in martini glass with lime twist

Any sparkling wine will do, but prosecco made the cleverest title

1 oz favorite gin

1/2 oz. Calvit’s Cranberry/Rosemary Shrub

2 oz. sparkling wine 

Shake gin and shrub with ice, strain into glass, top with sparkler, add a pretty citrus twist
